Lessons
What do you want to get better at? Erin’s lessons are tailored to the interests and goals of each singer. Good singing comes in a wild array of styles, so singers are encouraged to study music they enjoy, and grow in a direction that interests them. Whether you want to try out for a show, study opera, audition for a college program, or become a better leader in your chorus section, Erin can help!
What we can learn together
Whatever your genre preference, the aim is the same: to allow all singers to develop healthy singing technique, effective performance skills, and good musicianship. Just a few of the things we can cover in lessons include:

- Posture
- Breath control
- Efficient tone production for improved beauty and focus
- Accuracy of intonation (pitch)
- Vocal flexibility and expression
- Range extension
- Blending registers
- Musicianship skills: music reading, solfege, sight-singing and ear training
- Diction for singing in: English, French, Italian, German and Latin
- Strategies for confidence and handling performance anxiety
Lessons are offered for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. An intro lesson is a great way to meet and try out singing together before committing to a period of study.
Teaching Philosophy: when will I improve?
How much and how quickly a singer will improve during voice study depends on many things. Innate ability, the level of alignment between the singer’s natural instrument and their goals and preferences, willingness to practice, interest level, creativity and learning styles all play a role. There’s plenty to be said for hard work and discipline, but even with a healthy dose of both, skill acquisition is not linear–so patience must be part of the process too.
Singers focused on mastery can sometimes forget the aspect of fun. Singing for singing’s sake–for the experience, the joy and thrill and physicality of it, has to be part of the journey. When both ingredients are present–joy, and willingness to do the work of learning, progress is faster and more enjoyable. Erin endeavors to strike a healthy balance to ensure singers come away from lessons feeling energized.
“I can only think of music as something inherent in every human being – a birthright. Music coordinates mind, body and spirit.”
